Quotes

“I see myself as someone who can help change… lot of my friends were on drugs… when I’m back, they saw that I changed…I sat with them... organized stuff to do... so we did not had to participate in drugs…few of them stopped... so I feel good about it.. Chrysalis was helping me with my life and then I could help other people as well.” (Female Graduate in 2006)

aftercare 10To ensure the sustainability of our youth development program, our graduates are followed up by the Chrysalis Department of Community Affairs throughout the five years to monitor and assess their progress and identify their needs for intervention, explore employment or volunteer opportunities and take care of their well-being.

For an ongoing support for our graduates, we provide the following structures:
  • Annual Retrainings, especially for our unemployed graduates or/and our motivated club members that generally focus on leadership, sports coaching, marshaling, event management, peer mediation etc. and also serve the Academy to do an impact assessment
  • Chrysalis Career Resource Centre, that supports the Department of Community Affairs in tracking graduates, informing them about various opportunities as well as providing career guidance sessions and networking with the various tertiary institutions and stakeholders in the job market
  • Community Youth Clubs, which were designed as part of the Aftercare Program to represent the Academy’s extension in the various communities to promote its vision, recruit new youngsters as students, assist with the follow-up to support graduates and to coordinate the volunteer activities and community events.
In areas where no clubs exist, graduates are supported by the Chrysalis Academy to built up a new club or link up with community development structures and government programs for young people e.g. Bambanani Against Crime, Neighborhood Watch, Hoops4Hope or Skip4 Health (see Our Partners).
Especially unemployed graduates are absorbed into these projects and initiative run by various Government departments. Often they are also used as marshals and volunteers for events like the Two Oceans Marathon, Cape Argus Cycle Tour, Cape Epic Race and other large events in and around Cape Town.
