The Chrysalis Academy was the proud recipients of the UN Habitat 2008 Certificate of Recognition for excellence in urban safety, crime prevention and youth at the International Youth Crime Prevention and Cities Summit in Durban (17-21 June 2008).
The award is based on research done two years ago by UN-HABITAT in cooperation with the University of Cape Town (UCT). The Academy was evaluated as one of the best practice examples in youth crime prevention.
This Award will hopefully help the Academy in getting much needed funding to further sustain and improve its empowerment training and aftercare of its graduates to ensure their personal development into positive role models and leaders in their communities.
It will also open up more local and international networking opportunities. The Department for Community Safety of the Northern Cape is already interested in cooperating with the Chrysalis Academy to create a similar program in its Province. The Academy will proudly support initiatives of duplicating its successful program nationally and also globally.
