Quotes

“It was an awesome experience… when I got here I was a little bit shy still, but there were people that already recognized the talents in me, which I’m grateful today cause they saw potential I have, the talent that there is… they made me proud, made me become confident,… just getting a positive mind… became goal oriented, knowing what I want in life.” (Female graduate from 2002, became facilitator at Chrysalis Academy)

“What you put in is what you get out”

I was born in a place called Barrydale just outside Cape Town, where I lived with my aunt and cousins.

After matriculating at Barrydale High School in 1999, I wanted to study Sports Management, but due to a lack of funds, I couldn’t go study. I then saw an advertisement about Chrysalis Academy at the Police Station and applied immediately.

After completing the course, I went back to Barrydale and worked as a voluntary Rugby coach. In 2001 I was selected to play professional rugby in the Eastern Cape for four weeks. In Cape Town I continued to do voluntary coaching at schools until I was called back to the Academy to do a catering course for a month and then started working as a Food Service Assistant (FSA) for 6 months. After my contract expired, I returned to Milnerton, where I assisted my brother in-law with Carpentry, Plumbing, Tilling and Home renovations. In 2004 I came back for retraining for a week and then stayed on Instructor/Facilitator until present.

Gustaf’s Career achievements are acquiring a Level 5 Certificate in First Aid, Qualified Mountain Guide, Certificate in Conflict Management, and a Certificate in Supervision, Accredited Facilitator, Sport coach in Rugby and Cricket and acquired Chrysalis Academy merits.
