I was born on 04 November 1984 and grew up in the Tafelsig community with my mother. After completing my schooling in 2002, I attended Varsity College where I studied International Hotel Management in 2003.

I learned about Chrysalis Academy through a friend Moses Piet, who also completed the 3-month Empowerment Training in 2003. I came to the Academy in 2004, attending the last course of the year.

I grew up in Beaufort West with my grandmother and I am the oldest of four kids. I matriculated in 2002 and still needed direction in my life, as I was not certain what I wanted to after school. I then decided to go study for a N4 management assistant at Port Elizabeth College, Russel Road Campus.

I grew up with both my parents and I am the eldest of four children. After I matriculated I went to further my studies and went to do a Diploma in Marketing Management (N4)at the South Cape College, Mossel Bay. Unfortunately I could not complete the course and found a job opportunity at Jet stores in Beaufort West.

joy-qpr“The one thing I learned at Chrysalis Academy is that there should be no limit you can push yourself to, I just want to learn more and more each day.”

I matriculated at Heideveld High in 2001, thereafter I got a job at a clothing factory called Jaques Hau, but I felt that I wasn’t growing as a person. Meanwhile I found out about Chrysalis Academy from my uncle who volunteered to take I.D photos for students at the Academy. I applied in June 2002 and was accepted to come on the Life skills Programme on 10 August 2002.
